My matter-of-fact four and a half year old niece, Amelia, spent the morning with me on Saturday. During the week I debated how we would spend our time together.
The decision - bake a pumpkin pie.
A little random, but it was for my little brother’s 20th birthday. This squash inspired dessert is a tradition for him and he prefers this over a traditional cake.
My mom usually whips up the pie, but they recently moved to Louisiana. So I knew it was up to me to keep the tradition alive! Also, my mom text my phone a few billion times to make sure I was going to make it!
After we went shopping for the ingredients, Amelia asked if she could make a cooking movie so, “The world will know how to make it perfect.” (egocentric much? lol!) So of course, I agreed.

The best part about spending time with Amelia, is she gives great advice and insight. Here are a few moments we shared:
“Auntie, you really should get married to Uncle Jesse already. Well, at least that’s what mommy says.”
(while standing in my closet looking at my clothes) “Are these the clothes you took from mommy? You shouldn’t steal. It’s not nice.”
(while at Wal-Mart) “You shouldn’t eat unhealthy things. You’ll get a big butt and then you will have a big butt crack. I have a little butt crack so that means I’m healthy.”
(while walking my dog) “Dogs have butt circles. Humans have cracks.”
“I don’t like Justin Beaver. Well, I like the animal beavers, just not Justin Beaver. He has hair like a girl.”
(in the kitchen while I was in the living room) “Hey this pumpkin pie is delicious.” (keep in mind the pie was for the next day!)
She surely lives up to her middle name, Rose, after my mother. I can’t wait for our next adventure! Oh, and if you need any life advice, she is available anytime ;) lol.
